WHO WE ARE

United Baptist Church is a community who seeks to be inspired by Jesus Christ's hope, God's word, and the Holy Spirit's power.
We try to be a place where strangers, friends and family experience the Bible's vitality, enjoy enriching fellowship, face God in worship, commit to live as Christ, and prepare to serve Him in the world.
We are not a community just for people who already believe -- we also welcome seekers, the lonely, the hurting and the broken. That's because we are all seeking, lonely, hurting, broken people just like you. By the grace of God you can find here a safe place to rest as you discover how Jesus heals and provides.

What do you mean about being inspired by Jesus, God's word and the Holy Spirit?

That brief description is an adaptation of our mission statement. It means that first and foremost we are a group of people who gather together (a community) and the center of our life together is Jesus Christ. We orbit around him and center everything on him for one simple reason -- he is God revealed and made real to us in the flesh. Because of who he is and what he has done, he is the only hope for a world that is broken and in need of healing.
Now, that's a pretty bold statement -- but it is what our holy writings (the Bible) teach us. Those writings show us what the church of Jesus Christ has always believed from the very beginning and so we pay attention to them as our most dependable way of understanding who God is, what he has done for us, and what he wants us to do.
Those same writings teach us that our Lord Jesus Christ sent his Holy Spirit to help us, to guide us in wisdom and understanding and to comfort us. It is through his Spirit that Jesus is present with us and who gives us the power to trust in him and to do what he has asked us to do in his name. The Holy Spirit gives his power to us through the words of the Bible, through the love and grace experienced in the community of believers, and in the worship we offer him.

So What difference does all that make?

This changes the way we behave toward one another and toward the world around us. And this is true whether you have been part of our community for years, or if you are someone we have never met before.
We want everyone to learn about what God has done for us according to the Bible. When we see and experience the grace of God, he brings new life to our hurting broken selves. We love sharing this new life with anyone who wants to join us. So we take time to worship the amazing and glorious God who actually gave himself to save his broken creatures.
What's more, we want to bring this into the way we live our lives out each day, at work, at play, at home and everywhere we go. To put it plainly, God's infinite one-way love motivates us to live and serve others just as God in Christ lives and serves us.
We aren't perfect. We miss the mark a lot. We give each other lots of chances to forgive. But the beauty of it is that we find that even in our misses, the grace of God fills in our broken places and we learn to love God more deeply.
